One of the most dangerous things a business owner can do is choose a website developer based on price. 

While I understand that finances are tight everywhere, the number of sites we come across with major usability issues is  truly disheartening.

While the designs may be nice enough, these sites are typically bloated with unnecessary code that slows them down; they aren’t optimized for people or search engines; and no thought has been given to whether the structure meets the needs and goals of the intended audience.

Now, some of that is simply due to a lack of experience on the part of the designers. They haven’t yet learned that there is more to digital design than just the pretty colors and a “nice” layout. They don’t understand that the layout of a site needs to facilitate the user’s journey.

And some of it is pure greed and laziness.

Far too often, people calling themselves web designers will simply drop a ready-made theme onto a WordPress install, customize the colors and layout a bit, and then call it a payday. The business owners are happy – for a time – because it’s up, it looks decent, and it only cost them a few hundred dollars.

Then reality sets in.

The sites are slow. Search engines can’t find them. Customers can’t complete a sale, or find the information they’re looking for. Complaints are on the rise, etc.

And, ultimately, it ends up being wasted digital real estate.

We understand that web design is about so much more than an eye-catching design. Web design is about the USER JOURNEY.

Whether you want a phone call, a sale, or to impart specific information, the most important job your website has is to lead your visitors to the desired conclusion.

This is accomplished through a combination of color, layout, copy, and structure – and without the right experience, if even ONE of these things falls flat, so will your goals.
